The Log Cabin Quilt Coat has velvet cuffs and belt, metal hook closure and satin lining.  Made from a two hundred year old American quilt, this garment it one of a kind.

 

Log Cabin Quilts became popular during the civil war.  They were hung outside houses and churches to signify a safe house for Black Americans escaping slavery using the Underground Railroad.  Quilts were used to navigate with hidden symbols, secret messages, helping direct people inflicted by slavery, to freedom.
