Log Cabin Quilts became popular during the civil war. They were hung outside houses and churches to signify a safe house for Black Americans escaping slavery using the Underground Railroad. Quilts were used to navigate with hidden symbols, secret messages, helping direct people inflicted by slavery, to freedom.
